3 Reasons to Start Your Own Content Service and How to Do It

September 3, 2013 by Daniel Sharkov|

Start a Content Writing Service

Start a Content Writing ServiceAs you might have noticed, several weeks ago a new tab, titled “Hire Me” appeared under my blog’s navigation menu. The new service I decided to start is all about
writing custom content for clients.

It was back a month of two ago when I decided it was time to add another stream of income to my blog.

Previously my only source of income
was affiliate marketing. With Tweet Adder releasing a new and very limited version of their tool that revenue dropped significantly.

Looking from the positive side of things, back then I went through some income reports and I was amazed to see that most of the bloggers were earning in the thousands from writing custom content.

So I said to myself “why not!” and jumped into it!

With some opportunities already rolling in and some income on the table, I believe it is time for an overview.

In the below paragraphs I have covered
three of the reasons why you might want to create your own hire-me page and
four rather simple steps to help you make a head start!

Why You Should? 1. It is Not Too Different from Your Normal Blogging

That’s right.
It is still content writing, just not for your own blog. It is still the same level of quality that you are used to when publishing content on your own blog.

Unlike affiliate marketing for instance where there is a learning curve, here one simply doesn’t exist.

Your potential clients get in touch with you via email You are given some basic guidelines as to what’s expected from you You settle on a price that suits both parties You do what you do best as a blogger – write, write and write some more.2. You Already Have the Content

Or more like you SHOULD have a solid content backbone in the first place. I mean if you started blogging a month or two ago, chances are you won’t get much offers unless you work for 15-20 bucks per piece.

The idea is to first create a
solid blog with dozens of high-quality articles and then build your authority via social media. People should know who you are.

But once you have that, it’s all real easy.

You have written a ton of content that you can always refer to and draw inspiration from. It is not about copying your previous work.

No, nothing like that.

It is just that when you have say a hundred posts behind your back the words start to flow naturally. And it doesn’t matter if we are talking about an article for your blog, a guest post, or a piece for a client.
You just know your thing, you have the experience.

3. There’s the Potential to Make a Lot of Money

So far you’ve learned that if you are into blogging for some time and have gotten the ropes of it, writing custom content probably won’t prove tougher than preparing your usual posts. So we know it isn’t that hard.

The other thing we need to get straight is how much can we earn…

Well let me tell you – for a quality piece that does more than take a glance on a topic and that comes at
1,200 – 1,400 words , you can make anywhere between
80$ ,
150$ and even more. Those are some of the numbers I have been offered so far.

However you look at it we are talking about some serious cash. I mean with a bit more focus on your side you can easily finish one such article in around 2-3 hours. That makes for a lot of dollars per hour.

The rest of course all comes down to finding the opportunities. To help you maximize your chances, I have prepared four effective tips. Keep reading!

How to Do It 1. Create a “Hire Me” Page and Make it Obvious

Obviously the first step of the process. How you go about the “Hire Me” page will of course play an important role for how much opportunities you will receive.

Once you have the page, first thing I’d suggest you is to change the name from simply “Hire Me” to something more revealing. Right now mine looks like “Interested in Hiring Me as a Content Writer? Read Below!”

It’s not hard to tell that the latter is more engaging and does a better job at getting visitors to scroll down.

Change Navigation Label

Change Navigation LabelNOTE:
Once you change the title, the Hire Me tab in your navigation menu will also change. To keep it you go to your
WordPress dashboard ->Appearance -> Menus . Select the menu and click on the tab, which used to say Hire Me. Now simply put Hire Me in the
navigation label field . That way you can have a fancy title while keeping the simpler one on your navigation menu.

Once you have that, move on to the intro.

A couple of rhetorical questions might be a good idea.  You could finish it with a few sentences about the importance of quality content and content marketing. All in all
try to keep that part under 200 words and make sure to add an image (look for “pen and paper” or something similar in Flickr).

Now make sure to do some research and
discover your best performing articles in terms of comments and social sharing. Gather them in categories and include links to them. Those examples of your work play a really big role, so be careful what you choose.

At the end urge people to get in touch with you and include a contact form.

NOTE:
I’d recommend you NOT to include any pricing. The reason is that the price is dependant on a lot of factors that will be determined at a later stage when the customer contacts you and presents details.

Last but not least a good thing to do would be to draw people’s attention to your Hire Me page right from the start. You could create a really simple arrow with an image-editing software and make it point to the Hire Me tab in the navigation menu. Here’s how to do it:

Add a Pointer

Add a Pointer You will need to identify the Hire Me element with Firebug By clicking on the element you will discover its unique ID You can insert the arrow by adding :after to the ID To do that you go to your dashboard -> Editor You click on stylesheet and look for .menu or #menu Below either one of those you place the ID

#menu-item-5761:after {
content: url(“Your Arrow URL”);
margin: 0 -57px; (Should be Tested)
position: absolute}

2. Start Promoting the Service on Social Media

Once you have it all set up, it is time for you to spread the word.

While I wouldn’t advise you to promote your service on Facebook and Google Plus more than once, on Twitter the promotion should be consistent. Three to four tweets every week will do a good job of keeping people informed.

When promoting make sure to come up with different messages for your tweets. Here is how some of mine look like:

Do you want to take your blog a step further? Learn more about my content writing service here – URL Do you want to get high-quality content for your blog? See here for more information – URL Are you looking to create more content for your blog? Learn more about my content writing service – URL

Spread the Word on the Social Networks

Spread the Word on the Social Networks3. Send a Message to Your List’s Subscribers

Your list is where your most loyal readers are. Those are the people who are most likely to take on an offer from you.

If you have sent promotional offers recently it’d be best to wait a couple of weeks until you get in touch with another one. Although money is in the list as they say,
you shouldn’t overwhelm your subscribers unless you want to start losing them. One offer a month is more than enough, so take your time.

In the email
don’t be too persistent and don’t tell your subscribers too much about the service. Just let them know that if they need a content writer, you can be of use. The ones who are interested will simply click on the link that you have left to the Hire Me page and learn exactly what you have to offer. Hard selling won’t result in anything more than people unsubscribing.

4. Utilize Every Opportunity

Have you ever received an email from someone, interested in you writing a guest post for them? Or maybe a tweet from some guy asking you to become a contributor for their blog?

Although in most of the cases with such questions people refer to you writing guest articles for them free of charge, you could take this a step further and point them to your content writing service. You could start by asking them if they’d like you to become a regular contributor on their blog.

Chances are there would be those who are interested. It’s all about trying and seeing for yourself.

In Conclusion

Since I started my content writing service a couple of months ago, I have received more than one or two offers. Even though not all of them worked, some did and believe me – when it comes to content writing the ROI is pretty good. So I’d highly suggest you to consider this option as your next monetization strategy!

Now on to you!

Have you started monetizing your blog? Have you ever wrote sponsored content or is in your opinion affiliate marketing the better way to go in terms of making money blogging?

Please take a minute to share your two cents!
